Overview

Marina beach Chennai has been called Madras Marina since 1884 when the promenade along it was first created (the city was called Madras back then).

Runs for about 6 Km and is one of the most crowded beaches in the country, attracting 30K-60K visitors every day.

Contains numerous iconic statues such as a Gandhi statue, The Triumph of Labour statue and statues of Tamil literature icons (Thiruvalluvar, Avvaiyar, etc.).

Decorated burial site of major political figures in Tamilnadu such as M. Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa.

Know Before You Go

Though available along service roads, parking can get chaotic during peak hours. Take auto/cabs during peak hours.

Expect huge crowds during evenings and weekends.

Do not enter the water beyond ankles. The undercurrents are strong and unpredictable.

Be cautious with purchases of cut fruits, chat items with exposed toppings and Ice cream from non-branded carts.

Avoid expensive shoes. Wear sandals/footwear that are ok with sand.

It is recommended to not stay in the beach beyond 10:00/10:30 PM.
