Fort St. George Museum
One of India’s most important Colonial Museums with numerous British Artifacts

Overview
The museum was established in 1948 soon after independence.
Some of the major attractions include the first Indian flag that was flown in Chennai after independence, East India Company Coins and Documents and Early British Military weapons and clothes.
Things to Know before Visiting
It is a compact museum.
Ample parking is usually available just across the road from the fort entrance. Do note that parking within the fort premises is usually not allowed for private vehicles.
Since the compound which contains the museum also has some major government offices, it is highly recommended to carry an Identity card ready for inspection (PAN, Aadhar, Passport, etc.).
Cash might not be accepted. So, either pre-book the tickets online (asi.payumoney.com) or ensure you have internet enabled on your phone and prepare to pay using UPI or using your credit card by scanning a QR code at the site of the museum.
Recommended to combine a visit to the Museum with a visit to St. Mary’s church which is in the same complex. This Church is the oldest surviving British building in India.
